Jeffery Smith MD
Jeffery Smith is a psychiatrist in full time private practice in Scarsdale, NY. His main interest is in how people change and how psychotherapy works. He teaches at both New York Medical College and the Westchester Institute for Training in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. He is also a team member at Turning Point for Leaders of New Caanan, CT.
Dr. Smith has extensive experience in cross-theoretical psychotherapy for a range of problems including addiction, trauma and dissociative problems. He has served twice as President of the Psychiatric Society of Westchester, a District Branch of the American Psychiatric Association. He is published in scientific journals and has lectured on a range of topics including addiction, adolescence and psychotherapy theory. He has appeared on Good Morning America and 60 Minutes.
Dr. Smith received his BA from Stanford and attended UCLA School of Medicine. He trained in Psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and has been board certified since 1978. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a member of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry and the American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry as well as SEPI, the Society for the Exploration of Psychotherapy Integration.
